I am a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Kansas.
I hold a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and MA and PhD degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.
My research focuses on the development of personal and group identity in children and the implications of identity for academic, political, and civic engagement. I study what children think and know about topics related to race, gender, and politics, and how adults talk with children about these topics.
I teach courses in child development, social psychology, and effective college teaching.
